What is Power-Au and How Does It Work?
Power-Au is your gateway to one of Australia’s most iconic lottery-style games, first introduced in 1996, and drawn every Thursday night. Known for delivering massive jackpots, it often features larger prizes than many traditional lottery games.
How It Works:
The game uses two separate barrels of numbers:
- The first barrel contains 35 balls, from which 7 numbers are drawn.
- The second barrel holds 20 balls, and 1 Powerball number is drawn.
To hit the Division 1 jackpot on Power-Au, you must match all 7 main numbers plus the Powerball number.
Jackpots and Odds:
- Your odds of winning Division 1 are 1 in 134,490,400.
- If there’s no winner, the jackpot rolls over, growing significantly each week.
- The largest jackpot to date reached $200 million in February 2024.
Power-Au operates under Australian gaming regulations, ensuring a fair and secure experience. Whether you’re aiming for the grand prize or enjoying the excitement of weekly draws, always remember to play responsibly.
What Types of Tickets Are Available on Power-Au?

You can:
- Choose your numbers manually, or
- Use the QuickPick feature to have them selected randomly.
The minimum purchase for a Standard ticket is 4 game lines.
- To play, simply select:
- 7 numbers from 1 to 35
- 1 Powerball number from 1 to 20
How Do You Win on Power-Au?
There are multiple prize divisions, and each lower division requires fewer correct picks.
Only the highest prize division won per line is paid out.
Division | Match | Odds |
---|---|---|
Division 1 | All 7 main winning numbers + the Power-Au | 1:134,490,400 |
Division 2 | All 7 main winning numbers | 1:7,078,443 |
Division 3 | Any 6 main winning numbers + the Power-Au | 1:686,176 |
Division 4 | Any 6 main winning numbers | 1:36,115 |
Division 5 | Any 5 main winning numbers + the Power-Au | 1:16,943 |
Division 6 | Any 4 main winning numbers + the Power-Au | 1:1,173 |
Division 7 | Any 5 main winning numbers | 1:892 |
Division 8 | Any 3 main winning numbers + the Power-Au | 1:188 |
Division 9 | Any 2 main winning numbers + the Power-Au | 1:66 |
Many assume you need all eight numbers exactly correct to win anything, but Powerball features nine prize divisions, so partial matches can still lead to a payout.
The more numbers you match, the higher the prize division you claim.
In fact, to win Division 9, you only need to correctly choose two main numbers plus the Powerball.
People often boost their winning chances by joining a syndicate, where a group agrees to split any prize.
There are also a few ticket upgrade options you can try:
- A PowerHit entry guarantees the Powerball is matched on your ticket.
- A Systems entry allows you to pick from 8 to 20 main numbers, greatly raising your chances of hitting a higher division.
